Side Ancient Theatre
One of the largest theatres of Pamphylia, built on arches rather than a hillside.
Built in the Roman period, the theatre rises on supporting arches on flat ground.
It stands in the middle of the ancient city, on the way from the city gate to the shore.
🏛️ History
The theatre was built in the 2nd century AD and, seating 15,000–20,000 people, is one of the largest in the region. In the Byzantine period (5th or 6th century) it was used as a place of worship.
